She has just been launched in Tamil by Venkat Prabhu’s assistant Pa Renjith in Attakathi and with a banner like Studio Green behind her, Nandita couldn’t have asked for a better debut. In a chat with Sify.com, she talks about the making of the film and plans ahead..
How did you enter the industry?
I did the lead role in Nanda Nandita, which was a hit in Kannada. Later I was studying for my B Com. I continued with some modeling till this out of the blue, this offer for Attakathi came up. When I heard the story and my role, I loved it.
How did you get into the character for the film?
I play a middle class schoolgirl Poornima, who later goes to college. For that I would observe the body language of that age group and try to imbibe it. I would watch their reactions and even traveled by bus many times, to get into the skin of the character.

The film has no duets around you…
Yes, Attakathi is a very different film. Many a time, I didn’t even know when they were shooting! Several times during the street shots we would be natural and only later I came to know it was used in the film. I have three songs but none are the usual combination duets.
Any challenges for you or was it a cakewalk?
Well the scenes were usually shot with lots of crowds and added to that the heat and rains sometimes made it tough for the unit. Other than that, Renjith handled everything beautifully and made us give our best without any stress or tension.

What’s your next step now that Attakathi has received a good response?
Yes I am grateful people have liked the film. Now I am shooting for Venkatesh, another of Venkat Prabhu’s assistants. The film is called Nalanum Nandiniyum and Michael is the hero. It’s a Madurai based role and very challenging with lots of scope to perform.
