The 50-year old actor has been nominated for the third time in this category for his performance in Alexander Payne's film The Descendants.
Sporting ill-fitting Hawaiian shirts, Clooney slipped into the role of Matt King, 'the back-up parent' who has to take care of his rebellious daughters after his wife goes into coma after a boating accident.
King is also the trustee of a family trust that controls 25,000 acres of land in Hawaii.
Clooney effectively portrayed his character's inability to take care of his daughters, his confusion and pain on learning his wife had an affair and especially triumphed in the emotional scenes. The scene where he bids his final farewell to his wife after her death will leave you choked.
The actor has already won a Golden Globe for this performance.
