Bollywood bids goodbye to Gautam Rajadhyaksha

The ace fashion photographer passed away on September 13. He was 60.

Cousin to novelist Shobhaa De, Gautam's first encounter with fashion photography happened in 1980, when he happen to shoot pictures of veteran actress Shabana Azmi, Tina Munim and Jackie Shroff.

He left his advertising job in 1987, and took up commercial photography full-time, and soon started doing product campaigns, media assignments and fashion portfolios.

In 1997, Gautam released a coffee table book, titled FACES, containing 45 film personalities beginning with Durga Khote (one of the first ladies on the Indian screen) and ending with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. His portraits of musicians, writers, sport stars and industrialists have won him great critical acclaim.

In 1992, he wrote his first screenplay for Bekhudi, which launched actress Kajol's career and his second Anjaam presented Madhuri Dixit in a challenging role.

De mourned Gautam's death and wrote on Twitter, "My darling Gautam Rajadhyaksha no more. Saddened beynd belief. Farewell confidante-cousin. Thank u 4 your generous love nd soft focus memories."

Several Bollywood personalities also took to Twitter to express their shock and grief over his demise.

"Gautam Rajadhyaksha the most gentlest of humans, and one of the finest photographers in the industry, a friend, family favorite ..RIP. -Too shocked to learn of Gautam ! Were talking about him just the other day. Many of his pictures adorn our house and our books ," megastar Amitabh Bachchan wrote on Twitter.
