Amitabh Lexicon (2011)
Author: Bhawana Somaaya; Publisher: Pustak Mahal
The attractive orange and red cover gives the following information against Amitabh Bachchan's photograph - AB-68, 174 films, 41 years of career, captured in 2,833 headwords of the English dictionary. This pretty much sums up the book, which is so interesting because of this unique concept.
The author, who has already penned two books on Amitabh Bachchan over the years, coaxes the reader to 'open the pocket Oxford dictionary and randomly pick a word. You are then to look for the word in the Lexicon, and find it relating to Amitabh Bachchan's films.
We did just that and stopped at two words - 'Mansion' and 'Black'. Mansion's reference found its way to Kabhie Kabhie and the book informs us that Bachchan's family in Kabhie Kabhie resided in a mansion.
The second word we stop at is Black. The book, naturally, makes the reference to Bachchan's film by the same name.
The book is a labour of love and it is little wonder that the author confesses to having worked on it for years. An interesting concept indeed.
