Dev Anand: The star who shone brightest as a human being
By Lata Khubchandani

Dev Anand dies.

The starkness of that reminds me of another matter-of-fact headline - Dev Anand weds. That was how Dev Anand’s marriage had been announced in 1954, without any fanfare or media blitzkrieg.

To Dev, life and love would be intensely private affairs. What was public was his career as an actor, his stardom and his stylish image.

It is, according to me, nature’s way of giving in to the wishes of her beloved son that he should pass away on neutral ground - in a hotel room.

There is almost a poetic romanticism in that because he loved to travel. He had favourite hotels which kept rooms aside for him, just in case he decided to make an unannounced visit.

But the real romanticism lies in the fact that he wouldn’t want fans to see him lying inert for his final journey.
