The last we saw from this acclaimed director was The Last Airbender. It wasn't Night-Shyamalan-impressive. Now, he's back with a new sci-fi flick - After Earth. The film set in Nova Prime, mankind's new home after a forced eviction from earth due to cataclysmic events. Will Smith stars as Cypher Raige, a General on the new planet. He returns home after an extended tour to meet his 13-year-old son, Kitai essayed by Jaden Smith. The two begin to reconnect, but it all comes crashing down literally when asteroid knocks out their space craft onto a long dead Earth.
Kitai leaves his severely injured further on a quest to recover their rescue beacon. Yep, Will Smith takes a back seat and let's his son take on the star power.
It's an interesting premise but nothing we haven't heard before. It certainly will be interesting to see how Night Shyamalan portrays it. But it's a long wait to find out - 7 June, 2013.
