First look: Sherlock Holmes

Guy Ritchie has dropped his usual medley of thugs, guns, and hilarious gore to take on something a lot classier - Sherlock Holmes. He's even gone all A-list and Hollywood in his adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle's suave, eccentric and undeniably attractive detective.

Robert Downey Jr dons the trademark hat and puffs on the pipe with Jude Law at his side as the rather hot Dr Watson, something we never imagined possible.

If these two glamorous figures weren't enough, Ritchie has signed up Rachel McAdams to play the haughty Irene Adler, the only woman to have bested Holmes and with whom the ace detective shares a tempestuous relationship.

Taking on Holmes on screen is Mark Strong as the mysterious Blackwood.

Releasing December 25, 2009, we can't wait to hear "It's elementary, my dear Watson."
