This terrifying tale of a rural American town attacked by dead people who came back to life would turn out to be so influential that it practically became a rulebook for film makers of the genre in later years.
And soon enough, these lifeless 'ghouls', as Romero referred to them, invaded American pop culture and got a name of their own. Zombies.
