Harris Jayaraj confirmed his very first world tour “On the Edge” that comes after a decade in films. At a media meet, the music director announced his tie up with Techfront, a state of the art technology firm that is handling the technical aspect of this one of its kind show.
Director Vijay, who was also present, will be the creative director in charge of showcasing and presentation. The shows will kickstart at Mayajaal stadium on ECR in Chennai on October 2. It will be followed by shows in Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Dubai and Kuala Lumpur and South Africa.
Explaining the unique concepts of the show, Murlidharan, MD Techfront said, “For the first time in the country, we will be using a giant stage which will be 140 by 80 feet, with a 270 degrees vision for everyone in the audience. It’s going to be a marriage of light and sound and interactive screens, which will change according to the movements of the dancers and singers on stage. International choreographers will teach the dancers and singers how to synch their body movements with the technology. The showstopper will be a 3Dscreen, a first for such a large public audience, comprising nearly 30,000 people at a time.”
Asked why he had taken ten years to do his first show, Harris said, “I had no time earlier. But now for six months I have stopped signing new films in order to devote time to these shows. Also, I wasn’t sure of audience reaction to me and whether I had enough hits lined up. But when I met Murlidharan whose company has worked with big sports events like the IPL, I was excited by the innovative techniques used. We will be having technicians from China and North India too. There will be no ponnadais or paarattu, but just a straight line up of 24 songs, each presented differently. A show like this takes months of preparation and lots of rehearsals. We took on Vijay because a film director knows the pulse of the audience and we wanted to make sure there is never a dull moment.”
The show, which will have many singers like Karthik, Andrea among others, will also feature Harris singing himself, and a live orchestra and music. The show will later go on to Canada, Europe and the US in summer of 2012.
