Tell us a little about Firaaq

The film is set over a 24-hour period, a month after the Gujarat carnage in 2002. I call Firaaq a work of fiction, based on a thousand true stories. So you see a housewife closing the door on a victim and then dealing with her feelings of guilt; the loyalties of two friends being tested, a modern Hindu-Muslim coupleÂ’s reactions to whatÂ’s happening, and a musician clinging on to idealism, but not for long. Through these characters I wanted to show how the consequences of violence impact lives, and how violence spares nobody.
