After a glitzy opening ceremony, the 43rd International Film Festival of India featured sessions with leading actors and directors from the industry. Ang Lee's Life of Pi was screened as the opening film, which was attended by the cast including Irrfan Khan and Tabu. They interacted with the media, explaining the creative process behind the film.
Om Puri talked about Indian cinema, which included films made outside of Bollywood. He asked for government support for these films, which suffer from lack of distributors.
The role of Doordarshan as a platform for such cinema was important, he said.
The legendary Dadasaheb Phalke was honoured in a role play session depicting a dialogue between his wife Saraswati and him. It was a 20-minute session that showed the 43 year old journey.
Lilette Dubey and Mohammad Ali Baig played the parts in the theatre piece, which featured various incidents from the film-maker's life.
