A co-production between Pakistan, Germany and France, Khamosh Pani is technically the "coming together of international skills". However, on an intellectual and emotional note, it is the coming together of sensitive individuals from India and Pakistan.
Sabiha Sumar is from Pakistan, the story and script is by Indian filmmaker Paromita Vohra. Kirron Kher, who gives a nuanced and sensitive performance as the main protagonist of the film is a popular Bollywood actress. It "is a rare confluence of feminist concerns working together".
Thus, the strongest message of the film is in its making itself, that true peace in the subcontinent can only be achieved by such cooperation between individuals and not by political intervention that led to the Partition in the first place.
Khamosh Pani, in every sense, represents the lessons that need to be learnt from Partition.
