A visibly ill K Balachander attended the audio launch of Kallapetty to congratulate the hero who, incidentally, was the person in charge of security in his house.
Reminiscing the good old times, when K Balachander broke into the scene as a newcomer, the veteran director said that he never got the same kind of welcome that many new directors get today.
He said he truly feels jealous at healthy film culture existing today. However, he had a word of caution for ‘would be’ filmmakers, he warned unflinchingly: watch the budget.
The iconic director, who was instrumental in introducing Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan to the Tamil film industry, was apprehensive about the kind of money that is being thrown around for production.
Directors, he said, should try and bring the cost of production down. His pearls of wisdom for the evening included his opinion that good films should and can be made within a small budget amounting to not more than 2 crores and directors should be content with the money they make.
Kallapetty is produced by Arima PS Karunanidhi and directed by Ra Ra.
