The last time we saw Kamal, it was in Manmadhan Ambu (2010). Having written the screenplay, Kamal also threw in an 'erotic' love song - Kamal Kavidhai.
It raised eyebrows for lyrics that revolved around a woman's hunt for a suitable husband which called upon Hindu deities Sri Varalakshmi and Aranganathar.
The combination of woman-love-Hindu deities instantly had the attention of the 'taboo' brigade (right wing groups) who stepped up the heat on Kamal and the producer of the film to drop the song which they deemed obscene and objectionable.
One wonders if these folks found Andal, the poet saint's Nachiyar Thirumozhi dedicated to the very same Ranganathar, unsettling for it too, is considered erotic in nature.
After blustering under the demand, Kamal did agree to drop the song.
But all this was a wasted effort. The film was so insipid that even the presence of this track couldn't have lit a spark of interest.
