Sivaji Ganesan’s 1964 epic Karnan reached the 150 day mark in 2012 when it was re-released and this was reason enough for the people associated with the film, to rejoice.
The film’s digitally enhanced version by Divya Films seems to be breaking new ground in this re- release. A function was held over the weekend, to mark the occasion by the All India Sivaji Ganesan’s Fan club and the thespian’s family members.
The grand event saw the presence of Sivaji’s sons Ramkumar and Prabhu apart from debuting hero Vikram Prabhu, who is the thespian’s grandson. MS Viswanathan, P Vasu, PB Srinivas, Y Gee Mahedran and several others were present.
Y Gee Mahendran summed it up: “ Karnan can never be remade. Nobody can replace any of the actors of the 1964 classic, and it would amount to mockery if it is done.”
The film is still running to packed houses in the city. An enthralling performance by UK Murali, of Sivaji’s evergreen hits was a part of the evening’s entertainment.
