Veteran producer and director Ramanarayanan passed away on June 22 due to kidney failure. Ramanarayanan directed his first movie Sumai in 1981. Since then, he has directed 126 movies in several Indian languages.
He was a trendsetter in Kollywood making many films with animals and also popularised Amman movies such as Aadi Velli and also lot of movies with Baby Shamili as the central character.
His Thenaandal Films also produced and distributed lot of successful films. His recent movie Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaya with Santhanam was a highly profitable venture. His last directorial venture was Arya Surya, his 126th film as director. The man knew the pulse of the audience and reinvented himself in the last 35 years.
He was also the President of Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) for three successive terms. He was very helpful to lot of new producers. A soft spoken Gentleman he also spent some time in Politics as a DMK MLA and was very close to DMK supremo M Karunanidhi.
His passing away is certainly a big loss to Tamil Film Industry.
