Marthanda Varma , the Maharaja of Travancore had an unexpected visitor at his Royal palace in Kowdiar, Thiruvananthapuram. It was none other than Lt Colonel Mohanlal who came in his army uniform to give the royal salute to the Maharaja.
Mohanlal came to the palace with his mother Santha Kumari and they paid floral tributes at Panchavadi, late Maharaja Chithira Tirunal's tomb. He was welcomed by Aswathy Thirunal Lakshmi Bai Thamburatti and her son. Mohanlal met the Maharaja and gave him a fruit basket and in return Marthanda Varma gifted him a Conch Shell (Shankh), a royal insignia.
Mohanlal's mother Santha was overwhelmed as it was her birthday and later she told pressmen that it was the best ever birthday gift she has ever received. She said: "My son has made me proud".
