The story revolves around Balan's search and the dead-ends she meets as people try convincing her that her husband does not exist. But Vidya is relentless and will let nothing stop her from finding the truth.
Interestingly, the film was shot not on sets but in Kolkata. Sujoy Ghosh, the director, said that there are two heroines in the film - Vidya and Kolkata.
As a tribute to the City of Joy the first song released from the film, Ami Shotti Bolchi, talks about Kolkata.
Amitabh Bachchan has also let his voice to the soundtrack in the song Ekla Cholo. The movie releases on March 9.
