Samra's Nazir Ali Khan is an immigrant Indian professor at a university in Birmingham. He lives with his wife Rizwana (Renu Brindle) and two children Saira (Neelam Parmar), 17 and Asif (Ali Zahoor), 14.
Nazir shares a great relationship with his children and indulges their love for all things English. Nevertheless, he has taken great pains to retain their link to their culture.
His picture-perfect family is thrown into chaos when one, he quakes at the idea of his daughter leaving home for university, two, when a proposal for her hand comes from home. Should he save face? Or, save his daughter?
