The first book of Stieg Larsson's bestselling and critically-acclaimed Millennium trilogy, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, was first adapted to cinema, in Swedish, in 2009 by director Niels Arden Oplev.

The powerful story then caught the attention of another director, David Fincher - the man behind Fight Club.

Fincher's English adaptation will hit screens on January 6, and stars Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. The story follows the search by a journalist for a woman who has been missing for 40 years. He is aided in his quest by a young computer hacker.

Fans expect quite a bit from Fincher and the film. And the director hopes to live up to it.

"I feel responsibility to an author who is not going to be able to see the movie. I feel responsibility to a Swedish crew who gave everything, 12 hours a day for 100 days to help put this thing on the screen," said Fincher in an interview with Reuters. "I feel responsibility to the actors. We don't want to stink the place up. Hopefully this version will live alongside the other version."
