This has been a year of many things - great music, a blitzkrieg of scandals and some really good movies. In the latter most we have Avatar. And if there was a line in that fantastic visual effects trip that stood out, it was this: The Great Mother does not take sides, only protects the balance of life. That one line from Neytiri seems to have summed up the unexpected and shocking purging of talent this year as a fresh crop of stars made a mark (think Christoph Walts, Gabourey Sidibe, Carey Mulligan, Adam Lambert, Susan Boyle).
