Nathalia Kaur kick-started our 2012 by bagging the Kingfisher Calendar Girl title. It was the perfect launchpad. Unfortunately, the part-Brazilian, part-Indian beauty spiraled down from 'sexy' to 'raunchy'. She has Ram Gopal Varma to blame for that.
He may have given her the 'big break' in Bollywood but it certainly wasn't a desirable first impression. We can no longer see her as the lithe dusky model. We can only see flashes of her gyrating on screen doing the most fugliest moves in an item number for Department. It's going to take a while to forget that. And if Ram Gopal Varma could stop raving about her in ways that smack of sexual overtures, it could help the process.
But RGV wasn't always like this. He had an eye for the erotic and he could bring it out on screen without making one uncomfortable. He brought in a new wave of brazenness that went hand-in-hand with a sense of empowerment. That aspect no longer exists.
We trace RGV's dramatic fall by visiting the heroines he's aligned himself with.
