Thilakan was born Surendranatha Thilakan at Ayroor (now in Pathanamthitta district) on July 15, 1938. And he wasted no time in heeding the call of destiny. While still in school, Thilakan began to dabble in theatre. Halfway through college, he chose full-time theatre.
