ParaNorman, which released in the US in August this year, is the latest animated film from Laika, the stop-motion animation studio that previously made Coraline back in 2009. The Academy Award nominated Coraline was covered in our earlier feature on smaller budget animated films that went under the radars of most moviegoers.
The situation this year seems to be no different. Hollywood has produced three major animated films that have released in India, two of which are sequels (Ice Age 4: Continental Drift and Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted) and an underwhelming film about a Scottish princess (Pixar's Brave).
There are no indications that ParaNorman (and other similar films) will get a theatrical release in this country.
Fans of quality animated films have no choice but to wait for the DVD and Blu-ray releases.
ParaNorman is about a little boy named Norman, who is a little peculiar, so his classmates call him Abnorman. But he has a special gift. He can see ghosts.
When a witch's curse comes true 300 years later, Norman must use his gift to save his town from the zombies that come a-walkin' and a-knockin'.
Despite its adult horror themes, ParaNorman is a children's film and is delightfully macabre. Take a look at the amazing posters released for the film and watch the trailer as you wait for the film to come out in your country.
