In our first feature in the Under the Radar series, we bring you recent animated films that you might not have heard of.
This is a new series that will cover films that went under most moviegoer’s metaphorical radars for varied reasons ranging from being made in foreign languages to being low budget, independent productions that didn’t get a wide release in theatres worldwide.
The ubiquity of Hollywood is a force to be reckoned with, and as a consequence, most of the animated films we see on our screens are from the three big studios Disney-Pixar, DreamWorks Animation and Sony Pictures Animation, and are almost always created on computers and targeted at a young audience.
This makes one wonder : Where are the animated films for adult audiences? Is anyone making films using puppetry and clay animation anymore? Are they slowly dying out to become lost arts?
To answer those questions, we must dig deeper to find films that are hard to find and also deserve a larger audience, but turn out to become underrated gems.
