There is stiff competition between the two films to grab the holiday audience, as they go all out to get more screens for the opening weekend. There is great expectations from the trade that the three day Pongal weekend will be huge in terms of box-office revenue.

Lingusamy considers Shankar as his role model, while the veteran director thinks Lingu is a good commercial director. As both of them get ready to clash this Pongal, things have heated up.
Lingusamy told a popular Tamil news channel that he considers Shankar as his "Nanban and role model". He also said that Shankar had called him up on New Year and wished him and Vettai all the best.
He said that even in the past two big fims have been released on the same day during the festival season and both have hit the jackpot.
Said Lingusamy: "It was a nice, friendly gesture from Shankar sir to call me up and wish us luck. He is not only a wonderful human being but also a great director."
