The movie, one among 200 films, was picked from nearly 2500 entries from all over the world. The festival started on Saturday, June 11.
Oscar-winning Hollywood director Barry Levinson (Rain Man) is heading the jury.
Vijay is already in Shanghai and will be present for Kaavalan's screening.
“ I’m thrilled and honoured that Kaavalan is taking part in the Shanghai International Film Festival. It is the first time I’m attending an international film festival,” said the actor.
