Amidst some protests and efforts to prevent the screening of the film, the controversial film Viswaroopam is being shown in most theatres in Kerala.

The Kamal Haasan film has been banned in Tamil Nadu and a decision on the permission to screen the film is eagerly awaited now.
Some of the political organizations, like the Left parties for instance, have been vocal in their support for the film.

The movie had run into controversy when certain Muslim groups opposed the release, as they felt that the film had sequences, which showed the community in bad light.

Certain filmmakers in Malayalam have come out in open against the ban. Director Aashiq Abu has written in his Facebook page against the move to ban a film and his comments have been receiving tremendous response, both in support and also against it.
