The Pongal festival dates (Jan 11, 12 & 13) have been sold out with Vishwaroopam, Alex Pandian and Kanna Laddu Thinna Asai booking most of the screens.
The next big date for Tamil film producers is likely to be February 1, a very good season to release movies. It gives the trade a clean three weeks before the next big date.
Already a lot of producers are eyeing this date. The buzz is that Madras Talkies and Mani Ratnam are keen to release their ambitious Kadal on February 1. Ace director Bala, who’s Pardesi was originally slotted for December 21, is now said to be eyeing this date.
Meanwhile Mani Ratnam’s former assistant Bejoy Nambiar’s David Hindi and Tamil version are slotted for release on February 1.
The trade feels that it will be mass suicide if these ‘class’ movies release on the same date.
