2005: Ditching the formula
Yes, this was the year where the production house decided to do away with the formula. Bunty Aur Babli by Shaad Ali was a film full of mischief and fun starring Rani Mukherji and Abhishek Bachchan as two con artists who fall in love. YRF gave a break to debut filmmaker Siddharth Anand who made a film about two young people and pregnancy before marriage with Salaam Namaste. Starring Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan, the film was a huge hit, especially with the younger audience. YRF`s third offering over the year was Arjun Sablok`s Neal n` Nikki, a bold experiment gone awry. The film had actress Tanisha wear the skimpiest of clothes and its risque language and subject put off the audience that still associated YRF with family movies. The production house received enough backlash for this one film for it to keep off anything even remotely sexually subversive.
