Today, it means a blustering cold evening at the Times Square with a flash mob serenading you with Bollywood hits.
At least, for Shumaila Rangoonwalla it did!
Shumaila's boyfriend Salman Ali decided a person as unique as her needed a unique marriage proposal. So he roped in some dancers and organised a flash mob set to the tune of Bollywood hits Tenu Leke and Chammak Challo.
The couple were strolling hand-in hand in Times Square when the flash dance began.
Salman watched the first performance with Shumaila by his side, but when it was time for Chammak Challo, he and his friends and family joined the dancers.
Finally, he pulled a thrilled (and slightly embarrassed) Shumaila into their midst and asked her to marry him.
She said yes, of course!
"It was a dream come true for any Indian girl," Shumaila later admitted to Good Morning America, which aired this unique proposal.
"It was Bollywood, it was dancing, music, everything we grew up with."
Has this inspired you to do something different for your girl. Check out the video for some pointers, then!
