A quiet birthday for Rajinikanth!

Today (Dec 12), Rajnikanth celebrates his 62nd birthday. After a long time, the superstar will be spending his birthday in Chennai with family.

Rajinikanth, at the best of times makes his birthday a very personal affair and for the last few years, had always been out of Chennai on December 12.

2011 has been tough year for the superstar due to his recent illness.

An attempt to put together a dispassionate perspective of a man like Rajnikanth the biggest star in Tamil cinema is a difficult job. The villain turned hero who later became a cult figure has been around for around for over three decades and has delivered more number of hits than anybody else.

He has that incredible combination of being a larger-than-life hero and yet seeming to be just an ordinary man on the streets. It has nothing to do with his superstar stature or being the number one at the box-office.

Rajni has passed the true test of a superstar when a person who knows nothing about Tamil cinema still recognizes him as an icon! At the box-office, Rajnikanth is a role model for all wannabe stars in Tamil and other languages.

This year Rajinikanth will not be going out of Chennai. He will be celebrating his birthday at home in Poes Garden, as he is busy with his animation movie Kochadaiyaan.
