Fans of Indian Idol 5 were in for a major surprise on Tuesday night.
Those who tuned in expected to see the top four contestants who would go on to fight for the top prize.
Rakesh Maini, the singer who had crooned the Rafi number Main Zindagi Ka Saath Nibhata Chala Gaya was the first to hop on to the danger zone. Swaroop Khan, the contestant from Jaisalmer, joined him.
Rakesh lost the popular vote, but there was a twist in the tale.
The judges - Anu Malik, Sunidhi Chauhan and Salim - decided to use their veto power and retain him on the show.
And what spurred the judges on?
Actor Aamir Khan, who was a guest on the show on Monday night to promote the telecast of 3 Idiots on SET, had made them a request. Aamir felt that all the contestants were equally good, and they should be given a second chance!
So, Rakesh grabbed his opportunity, and fans will have to wait another week to see if he will get lucky next week.
