[USA] Oct 27 (ANI): After traversing several hands, Aaron Sorkin will now be directing upcoming Hollywood movie 'The Trial of the Chicago 7', a film which he has also written the screenplay of.

In 2008, Steven Spielberg came on board to direct, but the project was put on hold because of a strike that was called by the Writers Guild, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

At one point of time, Ben Stiller of 'Night at the Museum' fame and Paul Greengrass, famous for directing 'Jason Bourne', considered directing the movie before Sorkin took over the reins.

The movie, which is set in 1969, follows a dramatic account of a trail where anti-war activists Abbie Hoffman (social activist), Jerry Rubin (businessman) and Tom Hayden (social activist) were accused by the US government of inciting riots on the sidelines of protests that took place during the 1968 Democratic National Convention.

Meanwhile, actor Sacha Baron Cohen is in early talks to star as Yippie Abbie Hoffman, the founder of the Youth International Party, in the movie.

The film was made into a documentary by filmmaker Brett Morgen in 2007 under the title 'Chicago 10: Speak Your Peace'.

Sorkin, whose adaptation of Harper Lee’s 'To Kill a Mockingbird' which will open in New York's Broadway theatre in December, is well known for movies like 'Steve Jobs', 'Moneyball'. While, Cohen is well known for movies like 'Les Misérables', 'The Dictator' and 'The Brothers Grimsby'. (ANI)
