Aashiq Abu is well known as the 'new generation director', after films like Salt N' Pepper, 22 Female Kottayam and Da Thadiya. Moreover he is regarded as one director, who has used the reach of Facebook to market his films. In fact his statements on various issues have made him one of the 'thinking directors' in Malayalam.

But everything seemed to have gone wrong after his statement against Kamal Haasan's Viswaroopam. He criticized the movie severely and compared the movie to one of Malayalam director Vinayan's past movies. From the moment the post came on Facebook, the social networking sites were flooded with posts and comments rebuking Aashiq's statement.

After a while, Aashiq withdrew his post and came up with an explanation. According to him, he had merely expressed his views as a movie buff and someone who had great regard for the legend. He was disappointed by the film and his views on the film, which was not liked by many.

Meanwhile director Vinayan, through his Facebook page, requested to be spared in this controversy. He is coming up with a 3D film titled Dracula 2012 and he states that though he has made several noted films, his efforts has mostly been ignored by the industry.

The controversies about Viswaroopam seem to have more thrilling moments than perhaps the actual movie itself!
