The battle between good and evil is the crux of any action-based vigilante movies. Jayam Ravi who is one of the most convincing and fit actor to play an upright police officer is back in uniform.

This time, Ravi’s opponent  is not as powerful as Siddharth Abhimanyu in Thani Oruvan.

Maari 2 review: Formulaic mass action entertainer | Kanaa review: Watch it for the brilliant performance of Aishwarya Rajesh | Seethakathi review: This Vijay Sethupathi's film has a soul

They are four youngsters, sons of rich and affluent businessmen and bureaucrats in the city. In short, Adangamaru is a straightforward revenge thriller, and what makes it interesting is the intense performance of Ravi and the innovative methods with which he takes revenge!

Subash (Ravi) is a young Sub Inspector of Police and he is also an IPS aspirant. In the intro scene, we come to know that Subash is a people friendly cop and he strongly respects the public and is ready to help them and safeguard their life. However, his senior officers are corrupt and puts needless pressure on the young man and hence he is forced to follow a different route to help people.

In one such incident, Subash feels that a girl who was found dead was murdered, but his superior officers are in a hurry to close the case as a suicide. When Subash digs deeper, he finds that four guys from influential families had raped the girl and also ruined the lives of many young girls in the past.

Just when Subash manages to put the four youngsters behind bars, their dads rescue them and they walk away as there is no evidence to the crime. Subash also gets suspended and returns back home only to find that all his family members are targeted. The rest of the film is about how Subash turns a vigilante and uses his cyber knowledge to murder all the four youngsters.

While the core plot of Adangamaru doesn't have anything original to say, it is well shot, well edited and brilliantly enacted by its lead actors.  No amount of praise would be enough for the performance of Jayam Ravi who  carries the film on his broad shoulders. The actor’s angry young man image and fit body works in favor of the film. The interrogation scenes with Sampath is one of the highlights.

The rest of the actors including Sampath, Mime Gopi, Alagam Perumal, and Munishkanth have done their parts well. Raashi Khanna has to look good and that she does what's expected of her. Her acting prowess, though, isn't called for.

Director Karthik Thangavel deserves a pat on the back for tackling such a subject without letting it get out of control or lose focus. The dialogues against sex crimes are powerful and he mostly rely on cyber techniques for the revenge angle, which is interesting.

Slick production values lift the film. Technically, cinematographer Sathyan Sooryan and music director Sam CS’s have done a commendable job. Editing by Ruben is also razor sharp and there are no unwanted songs and romantic scenes which usually affect the flow of any mass action-based commercial films these days. On a scale of 1 to 5, this one easily inches close to 3. So see it for jayam Ravi, if not anything else!

#AdangaMaru: Impressive. Entirely engaging cop-vigilante thriller that avoids the usual commercial rushes and plays a serious mind game. After Thani Oruvan, @actor_jayamravi gets another cop film right!

#AdangaMaru is a neatly packaged commercial action thriller. @actor_jayamravi in fine control of his role as Subash. Ravi as the righteous cop shines in his character with an excellent underplay. Another solid outing for him in the mainstream!
