She's back! Rani Mukerji returns to the silver screen and brings all of Bollywood's magic. There's a generous dose of classic Sridevi from Chaalbaaz and Mr.India, a touch of Madhuri's lavani oomph, and Rani's own feistiness!
Meet Rani's Meenakshi who is anything but her matrimonial ad copy of the perfect bride-to-be. She's kooky, vivacious and dictated by all things filmy every waking moment of her life.
Supporting Meenakshi on her quest to find Prince Charming is the boisterous mother who praises her daughter to the skies, and the father who has his heart and head in the right place. Together they weather their cheeky daughter, dull prospective grooms and obnoxious parents who insist on taking Meenakshi's height into consideration for the nuptial bed.
While suitors come and suitors go, Meenakshi has her eyes set on 'Southern Masala'. Enter Prithviraj as Surya. No, he's not playing Tamil movie star Suriya. But you would be inclined to think so once you see the six-pac abs and dance moves.
Will Meenakshi & Surya's world meet? There certainly is an explosive chemistry.
In the midst of all the romance and snubbing of suitors are some dazzling dance numbers to the tune of Amit Trivedi's infectious music. Given the sets, costumes and choreography, comparisons have risen to Vidya Balan in Dirty Picture. And we believe that should be taken as a compliment. At the same time, one can't deny that Rani sprinkles it with her own tantalizing persona.
Written & produced by Anurag Kashyap and directed by Sachin Kundalkar, Aiyyaa releases on October 12.
