Akkineni Nageshwar Rao passes away

Legendary actor Akkineni Nageshwar Rao (90) passed away on Tuesday night. He was battling cancer. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Care Hospital in Hydrabad. 

The great actor featured in 256 films in Telugu and Tamil. He acted as the lead actor in more than 240 films. Born on September 20 in 1924 in Krishna district, he started his acting career on stage. In 1941 in Dharmapatni, he made his debut on silver screen and went on to act till his last breath. Akkineni Nageshwara Rao last acted in Manam which is set for release this summer.

He was honored by the Indian Government with the second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan for his contribution to the Indian Cinema. ANR played a variety of roles ranging from a charming prince to a frustrated alcoholic lover, from a valiant soldier to a holy saint, and from a college student to wayward person.

Balaraju, Keelugurram, Laila Majnu, Devadasu, Chakrapani, Vipranarayana, Missamma, Ardhangi, Rojulu Marayi, Donga Ramudu, Mayabazar, Suvarna Sundari, Chenchu Lakshmi, Jayabheri, Illarikam, Aradhana, Kula Gotralu, Chaduvukunna Ammayilu, Poojaphalam, Mooga Manasulu, Doctor Chakravarti, Sudigundalu, Buddhimantudu, Sipayi Chinnayya, Dharmadata, Dasara Bullodu, Prem Nagar, Andala Ramudu, Mahakavi Kshetrayya, Secretary, Premabhishekam, Megha Sandesham, Anubandham, Sutradharulu, Rao Garillu, Sri Ramadasu, Sri Ramarajyam.

None can perform in romantic roles, comedy and devotional roles with the finesse that ANR did. Actors like ANR are rare phenomenon. Indian cinema has lost a great actor. ANR is no more, yet he will live forever through his films.
