With four actresses resigning from AMMA, the battle lines have been drawn in Mollywood. The decision of AMMA executive committee to dismiss Dileep after his arrest in the actress’ molestation case last year, was reportedly due to the pressure from young actors like Prithviraj, Asif Ali and Remya Nambeesan.
But that decision has been revoked by the new leadership of AMMA, with Mohanlal as the President and Edavela Babu as the General Secretary.
The members of the WCC and Prithviraj didn’t attend that AMMA meeting. Now with actresses Bhavana, Remya Nambeesan, Geetu Mohandas and Rima Kallingal resigning from AMMA, all are eagerly watching the next steps taken by Parvathy, Manju Warrier and Prithviraj.
The Dileep supporters in Mollywood have been alleging that WCC has split and Manju Warrier is no longer part of this Women’s forum. She has reportedly left for a foreign trip. There are also rumours spreading that AMMA was all set to give show cause notices to the actresses from WCC, who didn’t attend the general body.
Parvathy is also not in India right now and has not made her stand clear in this issue.
Meanwhile, Prithviraj met state minister Kadakampilly Surendran and talked about his forthcoming directorial venture, Lucifer. Interestingly, Lucifer is being produced by Antony Perumbavoor and Mohanlal is the hero of the film, which will start rolling soon. Will the hero ruffle feathers with all the Dileep supporters in the Lucifer team and still be on the rival side, is a valid question.
Several prominent names have come in support of the women who are up in revolt against AMMA.
There is a huge demand for the ruling Left Front in Kerala to make their stand clear about the action of actors Mukesh, Innocent and K B Ganesh Kumar in this issue. There are also many who are demanding the reaction of the other organisations from Malayalam film industry.
Writer N S Madhavan has linked the issue to the worldwide ‘Me Too’ campaign.
He writes: “Worst #Metoo incident happened not in Hollywood, but in Kerala, when an actor allegedly paid money to a gang to get an actress raped. The case is on, but male chauvinist pigs of Malayalam actors’ guild, AMMA, are shouting ‘Me too’ ‘me too’ in support of the accused!”
