Debutant director Bilahari’s Allu Ramendran narrates a simple plot where a police driver faces a rather curious issue – the tyre of the police jeep that he drives gets punctured so often, in a highly frustrating way.
Ramachandran (Kunchacko Boban) is married to Viji (Chandni Sreedharan). He is a short tempered guy who is often rude with others, which includes his colleagues or rank strangers.
There are some parallel tracks, where more characters are added. Jithu (Krishna Sankar) has lost his job in the Gulf and is frantically looking for another and during that journey, falls for Ramachandran’s sister, Swathi (Aparna Balamurali).
Then there is Jithu’s friend Ayyappadas (Dharmajan Bolghatty), Sub Inspector Sinto Simon (Salim Kumar), a football coach (Hareesh Perumanna), a local troublemaker Amruthesh (Sreenath Bhasi) and so on.
Ramachandran is named ‘Allu Ramendran’, when the vehicle that he drives ends up with a flat tyre, almost every time he is at the wheel. It reaches to a situation where Ramachandran has to take long leave and he decides to find the miscreant who does it all.
In all fairness, the cat and mouse game that ensues should have been an enjoyable one, with better writing. And that is exactly where the film flounders. The going becomes labored after a while. The crucial scenes where the reason for Ramachandran’s situation is explained has been lazily done. Also, the efforts to add more laughs doesn’t quite succeed.
Kunchacko Boban appears as a not so sweet character, which is in complete contrast with his usual avatar and is in a good form. He performs in a dedicated manner. Krishna Sankar is fine. Dharmajan scores with his comic timing and Aparna Balamurali is good.
Allu Ramendran is an okay watch, though it could have been much better with a smarter script and a more skillful presentation.
