Ambarish to contest polls from Mandya

The last of the superstars from the 80`s, Ambarish, will contest the Assembly polls in Karnataka from Mandya, on a Congress ticket.

These days, Ambarish is seen in character roles in movies of `A` list actors.

Traditionally a Congressman, Ambarish`s political fortunes have seen ups and downs. In the previous Assembly elections, he lost the poll from Srirangapatna. This year, he is trying his political luck from Mandya, his home town. Ambarish is a Vokkaliga, the second largest community and the strongest in South Karnataka.

Once considered a CM candidate, Ambarish failed to capitalize on the BO performances of his movies. He even rose to the rank of a Union minister under Congress rule. However, thereafter, he has been in and out of politics.

There are clear indications that the Congress will emerge as the single largest party and may even form the government. If indeed the Congress comes to power and Ambarish wins the elections, the chances of him becoming a minister are strong.

The actor was seen last year in the hit movie Drama. This year, he will be seen in Darshan`s Bul Bul, which is currently under production.

Other than Ambarish, Pooja Gandhi is contesting the polls from Raichur as a candidate of the BSR Congress and character artiste Umashree from Terdal on a Congress ticket.
