Veteran super star Ambarish and character actor Umashree have won the Assembly elections in Karnataka representing Congress. However, reigning star Pooja Gandhi, who contest the polls from Raichur constituency in East Karnataka as a member of the BSR Congress, suffered a humiliating loss.

While Ambarish won from the Mandya city, Umashree was elected from Terdal in North Karnataka. Both the actors have almost bid goodbye to Sandalwood and have been seen in fewer projects in the last two years. Ambarish won amidst tough contest, as there was strong opposition to his candidature.

“I know this election was a challenge for me. My fans and voters did not disappoint me. I am overwhelmed by this victory,” he said. This is for the first time that Ambarish is entering the Assembly. He has been the MP of Mandya thrice in the past.

Pooja’s decision to contest the polls came as a big surprise. The actress put several projects on hold to contest the polls. It looks inevitable for her to now return to Sandalwood to pursue her career.
Several other personalities too from the Kannada film industry won the polls.

They include producer Ashok Kheny from Bidar South as an Independent and Muniratna Naidu from Rajarajeshwarinagar as a member of the Congress. Both are known for producing big budget Kannada movies.
