Amitabh Bachchan successfully undergoes abdominal surgery in Mumbai

Film star Amitabh Bachchan successfully underwent abdominal surgery on Saturday for stomach aliment at Mumbai's Seven Hills Hospital.

Speaking to reporters after the surgery, Amitabh's son Abhishek Bachchan thanked the media and the fans for their wishes and prayers.

"I just came out to say thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, wishes specially media for respecting our privacy. Dad had a small procedure today, which is the legacy of his 1982 accident. He is out after the surgery and back in his room, he is fine and he is hail and hearty, and talking. The doctors have said they'll keep him here for 24 hours just for observation," said Abhishek.

Junior Bachchan further said that the surgery, which lasted for three hours, went as planned and his father responded well to it.

The 69-year-old actor had revealed in his blog on Friday that he had undergone a CT scan, but did not reveal the hospital where he would be treated.

Bachchan has had a history of stomach ailments originating from the 1982 accident during the shooting of the film, Coolie, which put him out of action for several months. (ANI)
