The eventful press conference of the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), held on Sunday, has opened serious debates of many kinds in Mollywood. WCC had demanded for justice from the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).
Yesterday morning (Oct 15) AMMA treasurer Jagadeesh issued a statement, claiming to be on behalf of AMMA, where he hinted the possibility of a general body in the near future, where the issues raised by WCC would be discussed.
However, a little later noted actor Sidhique and veteran actress KPAC Lalitha made it very clear in a press conference that AMMA is not going to be perturbed by the issues raised by WCC, which has received much appreciation from the social media crowd.
KPAC Lalitha’s statement that the already resigned members should apologize if they want to come back into the fold has been criticized in the social media debates. Sidhique made it clear that there is no possibility of a general body in the immediate future and it will happen only next year as per schedule.
Sidhique also raised questions like where is Manju Warrier, who was at the forefront while forming WCC, and said that AMMA will not let anyone target Mohanlal.
Jagadeesh responded to the press conference by saying he had issued the press release after consultation with Mohanlal. This led to the rumours that there are groups inside AMMA leadership with varying opinions.
Meanwhile, AMMA General Secretary Edavela Babu has reportedly said that it is the Sidhique’s version that AMMA approves.
With both AMMA and WCC determined to continue with their arguments, the battle is sure to get more serious in the days to come.
