Director Midhun Manuel Thomas’ Ann Maria Kalippilaanu is a funny feel-good movie that impresses with its fine moments and humour.

Ann Maria (Sarah Arjun, the cute little girl from Deivathirumagal and Saivam), comes from a well to do household and studies in an upmarket school. Her parents are both doctors and she is their darling, though they are on the verge of separation. Her dad Dr. Roy (Saiju Kurup) is helping the victims through the Red Cross at a camp in Syria. He is her hero and she is really yearning for her dad’s presence in her life.

Sometime later an incident happens which involves a sports teacher and that takes the story ahead from then on. Ann finds a local goon named Poombatta Gireesh (Sunny Wayne) and his confidant named Ambrose (Aju Varghese), through her friends, to beat up the sports teacher. In return for this, she has to give them the i-phone that her dad gifted her.

But soon it becomes clear that Poombatta and Ambrose are no goons, and instead they are jobless guys with no plans or aims in life.

It’s a hilarious situation and the script has been packed with smart lines and good situations that could be engaging. The basic plot has perhaps been inspired from certain Hollywood comedies and there are some rather predictable turns in the storyline as well.

The kids, led by Sarah Arjun, are quite good. Sunny Wayne and Aju Varghese have done their parts well, ably supported by Saiju Kurup, Shine Tom Chacko, Leona and John, who plays the PT teacher. Watch out a brilliant show by Siddique and one of the scenes where he narrates an old story of his could give you a lump in the throat.

Also packing a major surprise is the coming of an angel, played by Dulquer Salmaan, who is terrific with his dapper looks and energy.

Ann Maria Kalippilaanu is a cute little film that is genuinely entertaining. Watch this one!
