Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi launched the theme song for the World Classical Tamil Conference, tuned by the maestro AR Rahman at a function in Chennai on Saturday.
Rahman at a press conference said: “It took nearly two to two and half months to compose the anthem with a large crew of almost 70 singers. There was TMS, P Susheela, Yuvan, to name a few”. The first lines of the anthem written by Chief Minister Karunanidhi begin with Pirapokkum Ella Uyirkkum….
Some of the other top singers featuring in the anthem include Hariharan, Harini, Benny Dayal, Srinivas, Vijay Yesudas, Naresh Iyer and ARRs nephew GV Prakash. The highlight about this song according to Rahman is that it also features singers from other genres of music such as carnatic, folk, sufi and even rap.
