Of late, one of the most common plots in Mollywood is about the escapades of engineering students. The story will be set in some private engineering colleges where the students fool around without any interest in studies, teachers who are mostly comical, hostels with smoke and booze in plenty and the youngsters spending most of their time in romance or fights.

Debutant director Mridul Nair’s B Tech also begins almost in the same way. But the film gets some focus after a while and from then on, things become pretty engaging.

Anand Subramaniam (Asif Ali) has completed his engineering course but still has some papers to clear, before getting his degree. His parents are worried about his future and Anand maintains a defiant tone. His girlfriend Priya Varma (Aparna Balamurali) has completed the course and has started working. Anand and his group of friends have a long standing rivalry with another gang.

A fresher named Azad Mohammed (Arjun Asokan) joins the college and he starts sharing the room with Anand and his gang members, who are his seniors with back papers. The story meanders along aimlessly for a while, with some romance, emotions and of course action sequences.

It’s sometime later that the story gets a definite direction and there are some good moments and genuine issues that are being handled as well.

Among the actors, Asif looks good and has performed his role convincingly. Sreenath Bhasi, Saiju Kurup, Alancier, Jaffer Idukki and Deepak Parambol have done their parts well. Aparna Balamurali has nothing much to do and Niranjana Anoop is fine. The real surprise here is a good show by Arjun Asokan.

B Tech is a fine entertainer with some relevant messages in it. Some trimming could perhaps have made it more entertaining but even in the current form it’s a fairly engaging ride.

B- Tech review- Verdict: Entertaining
