Nandamuri heroes are known for their twirling moustaches and for slapping the thighs onscreen. But, Nandamuri Balakrishna, who plays Lord Rama in Sri Rama Rajyam, has to sacrifice his moustache.

Balayya, who has a great penchant for mythological roles, says that he is thrilled to portray the role of the celestial being, which he again terms as "getting into the shoes of my father". (NTR was immortalized for his mythological roles, including Rama and Krishna).

The film directed by Bapu is being produced by Yalamanchali Saibabu. Mullapudi Venkata Ramana (who recently passed away) provided the script and dialogues. Nayanthara plays the heroine.

At present, the movie is under a brisk shooting schedule at Ramoji Film City. Balayya is said to have read at least half a dozen versions of Ramayana. Highlight is that Akkineni Nageswara Rao, the doyen of Tollywood, and contemporary of NTR is playing the role of sage Valmiki. Music is by maestro Ilayaraja.
