As the Supreme Court considers setting up of a five-judge constitution bench to examine the validity of the practice of polygamy, a TV show in Kerala has set the debate rolling.
Basheer Bashi, a contestant on Bigg Boss Malayalam anchored by actor Mohanlal, has been married twice, and is an advocate of polygamy. Though when it comes to his wives, he's very clearly against Polyadndry - a practice where a woman can have two or more husbands at the same time.
"My first wife is my best friend," Basheer tells Mohanlal when he is introduced to the show. "When I got attracted to a second woman, I couldn't hide it from her. I tell her everything. She was initially a little upset. But she soon understood me."
Mohanlal, then, jokingly asks the audience not to get inspired by Basheer.
A clip from the show has Basheer speaking about his second wife, a B Pharm student in Mangalore, to a group of male contestants.
"So if your first wife tells you that she would want to marry another man, would you allow that," one of the men ask him.
"Never ever," says Basheer.
A businessman who calls himself a social media star, Basheer Bashi owns Borna Fashion Hub in Kochi and is an actor and model as well.
