Bharath Reddy, Meenakshi Dixit, Vishakha Singh, Singam Puli

The problem with Bayam Oru Payanam is that the film tries too hard to be scary and drowns under sheer tediousness and predictability.

The worst thing to do after a horror or suspense film is to write a review that bares all!

Director Manisharma uses non-linear narration to surprise us but unfortunately, we would have already guessed the next scene! Billed as a horror thriller, this one should have given us an edge of the seat movie watching experience but the end result is horrendous that one can’t sit through!

A photographer (Bharath Reddy) goes to Munnar for his work related assignment and hires a bungalow with the help of a local drunkard (Singam Puli). In the night, he gets a memory card in the bungalow and see photographs from a party and calls his journalist friend saying he will mail them. But even after repeated attempts, he cannot mail his friend and soon, starts experiencing paranormal activities.

At one point of time, the photographer gets special power to see people who are already dead. What happens to him? Can he go back to his place to see his wife and daughter? Will the ghost continue to haunt him and his family? Watch the film to know (of course, at your own risk)…

For any template horror film, two things are very important— the screenplay should be highly engaging that there should enough surprise elements and secondly, the back story of the ghost should create huge emotional impact. Sadly, both these things are completely missing here. The film is tacky and looks extremely amateurish.

Technically too, the film is below average with ordinary visuals and music. Though the intention of the director to make a unique horror movie with non-linear narration is understandable, but he unintentionally puts us to sleep mode! With its predictable tricks and lousy performances. Bayam Oru Payanam is neither frightening nor funny.
